The first time I used a weighted blanket was almost 20 years ago. I was working at Beacon Hospice as a hospice nurse. We had an Alzheimer’s program for dementia patients called “Deep Harbors”. One of the tools we used to help dementia patients to feel calmed and soothed was a 3# weighted blanket. It was a fairly new concept but studies showed great potential for calming children with disabilities as well. In order to really be able to see how calming it was, they gave each of the nurses one to keep. I was immediately in love! It made me fall asleep more quickly and more soundly. It’s like a big warm hug for your body and it made a real difference with decreasing undesirable behaviors in these patients as well! I also used it successfully for my daughter, who’s autistic. It helped to calm her and make her feel safe as well. I am definitely a huge believer in these. I hope more people will try them! By the way, yours is a lot more beautiful than the one I have! lol.
